Need Answers on Your Auto Insurance?
We like to educate you on what your insurance will cover so that there will be no surprise when it comes to the time to use it.
Self Owned or Bank/Lender Owned?
So the first question you need to ask yourself when getting insurance is do I own my vehicle or does the bank/lender own it? If the bank owns it then you will need to get full coverage which means that if you get into a collision it will be covered.
Worth of Vehicle
If you do own your vehicle you will need to decide if your car is worth getting full coverage insurance. For older cars that aren't worth much it wouldn't be cost effective to get full coverage because once you pay the deductible of $500 to $1000 that might be the worth of your vehicle. However, if you do own a more expensive car that is worth $25k and up it would be benefical to get full coverage insurance because if you do get in a wreak then all you would need to do is pay the $500 to $1000 deductible to get your car fixed. Also do remember that if the accident was NOT your fault then you would need to get the person that was at- fault insurance information and call their insurance company to make a claim on their policy. You do NOT call your insurance company if you are NOT at fault.
I Want Just Liability
So when you ask for just liability you will get Bodily Injury & Property Damage, Uninsured Motorist Coverage (Can Reject), Underinsured Motorist Coverage (Can Reject), Uninsured Motorist Property Damage Coverage (optional), Medical Payment (optional). The Bodily Injury and Property Damage you will cover the person that you hit but doesn’t not insure your bodily injury or your property damage.
Uninsured Motorist is a coverage that can be rejected but you must say you want to reject it or it will be included on the policy. This coverage provides Bodily Injury protection in case of an accident in which the at-fault driver has NO insurance to cover your Bodily Injury damages.
Underinsured Motorist is a coverage that can be rejected but you must say you want to reject it or it will be included on the policy. This coverage provides Bodily Injury protection in case of an accident in which the at-fault driver DOESN’T HAVE ENOUGH to cover Bodily Injury damages.
Uninsured Motorist Property Damage provides coverage to the insured vehicle or property for any damage caused by a motorist that does not carry insurance. If your car is damaged in a parking lot by and hit and run this would cover repairs for your vehicle.
Medical Payment is an optional coverage and it helps pay medical costs resulting from an auto accident for you, your family and everyone in the car at the time of collision.
I Need Full Coverage
With Full Coverage Insurance it has all the coverages that are included in Liability insurance but it adds Comprehensive Insurance, Collision Insurance, Roadside Assistance Coverage (optional), and Rental Reimbursement Coverage (optional).
Comprehensive insurance is a coverage that helps pay to replace or repair your vehicle if it’s stolen or damaged in an incident that’s not a collision. This coverage covers damage from fire, vandalism or falling objects (like a tree or hail). If you’re financing or leasing your car, your lender likely requires comprehensive coverage. If you own your vehicle outright, it’s an optional coverage on your car insurance policy. This coverage requires that you pay a deductible amount either $500 or $1000 to use this insurance.
Collision insurance is a coverage that helps pay to repair or replace your car if it’s damaged in an accident with another vehicle or object, such as a fence or a tree. If your car is paid off, collision is an optional coverage on your car insurance policy. This coverage requires that you pay a deductible amount either $500 or $1000 to use this insurance.
Roadside assistance is a set of services that can help when you have car trouble on the side of the road, in a parking lot, at work or even at home. If you’re stranded, a roadside assistance plan can help with services like changing a flat tire, jump-starting a dead battery or towing your vehicle to a repair shop.
Rental reimbursement coverage helps you pay for transportation expenses, such as a rental car or public transportation fare, while your own vehicle is being repaired after a covered insurance claim. It does not apply if your vehicle needs routine maintenance work or if you need to rent a car on vacation.
